REPORTS TO: Director of Operations, Board of Directors
JOB SUMMARY: Position will be the resident expert of golf course care and maintenance. Will lead and supervise Greens Department employees to the successful care and maintenance of all golf course and club turf and plant properties with a hands-on approach while maintaining emphasis and bias for fiscal responsibilities as provided by the Director of Golf & Operations and GPGC Board of Directors.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
GROUNDS MAINTENANCE:
• Plan, organize, coordinate and supervise the maintenance of all golf course grounds;
• Research, plan and monitor course preventative maintenance;
• Monitor, adjust and inspect the irrigation of the golf course to assure quality greens, tees and fairways;
• Assure grounds are prepared for tournaments and special events as directed by the Director of Operations and Greens Committee;
• Determine grounds keeping needs and make recommendations to the Director of Operations and Greens Committee for the purchase of supplies, equipment and parts.
• Assure the proper maintenance of all grounds keeping equipment;
• Maintain a written equipment and supply inventory system that includes large depreciated items as well as smaller non-depreciated items such as small tools;
• Coordinate the hiring of independent outside contractors retained to change or improve the golf club grounds;
• Develop and implement policies and procedures affecting the timely/orderly maintenance of the golf course facilities and equipment;
• Recommend and supervise the purchase, lease, installation and maintenance of golf course equipment and improvements including, but not limited to, cart paths (excluding carts), tee markers, waste receptacles, flags, signs, toilets, water fountains, and shelters;
• Prepare and plan for short and long term quality improvement goals pertaining to golf course grounds; and
• When reasonable, respond within 30 minutes during evening and weekend hours to provide leadership in the event of unusual circumstances or emergencies.
STAFF SUPERVISION:
• Interview, select, recommend the hiring, orientation and training for all greens department employee(s);
• Verify the orientation training for all new and re-hired grounds department employees within 30 days of hire, by submitting a printed orientation checklist to the Business Manager for filing in the employee’s personnel file. This checklist shall be signed off by both the superintendent and the employee to document the employee’s understanding of the material covered;
• Train and supervise all employees within the grounds crew to assure a efficient, quality performance;
• Plan, schedule and monitor work of grounds maintenance personnel to assure an equitable distribution of the workload and a efficient, timely completion of tasks;
• Provide progressive employee discipline of Green Dept. employee(s) when necessary through a means of verbal and written consults and/or when necessary consult with Director of Operations;
• Complete a written performance evaluation of each regular non-seasonal employee at least annually. Submit this documentation to the office for filing in the individual’s personnel file;
• Provide the Office Manager staff training information to assure the updating of the employee’s individual training record contained in his/her personnel file;
• Coordinate the activities of Golf Course employees who are involved with special projects;
• Create regular weekly greens department staffing schedules with bias towards work load and fiscal responsibilities.
SAFETY:
• Create and maintain a written record to document the training for each employee on all equipment. Assure this is recorded in their personnel file contained in the business office;
• Assure compliance with all OSHA rules and regulations to include but not be limited to maintenance of a log which documents the MSDS specifications from manufacturers;
• Responsible for golf maintenance building security alarm system & updates
• Assure records are maintained to meet OSHA regulations;
• Work in cooperation with the Office Manager to schedule and coordinate employee training as requested and/or required (First Aide, CPR, etc.)
BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Prepare period detailed department budget with analysis in coordination with Greens Committee and Director of Operations;
• Conduct cost comparisons as requested (supplies, equipment, contacted services, etc.);
• Purchase supplies and equipment as authorized by the Board of Directors;
GENERAL:
• Work in cooperation with other club employees to promote a cohesive “team” approach to Club management;
• Communicate and work cooperatively with Director of Operations, all members of the Board of Directors, Department Managers and Board Committees to facilitate the success of the club;
• Channel all concerns and complaints through the Greens Committee and Director of Operations;
• Conduct self in a manner that reflects a professional image to members of the golf club, its employees, and the public;
• Implement programs, policies and procedures assigned by Greens Committee & Board of Directors;
• Attend and report at Board meetings and club committee meetings as requested;
• Maintain a physical presence at Golf Course;
• Initiate preventative measures and maintain security systems that assures the security and protection of the club’s assets; and
• All other duties, tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Board of Directors and Director of Operations
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: An Agronomy degree from an accredited College or University
LICENSES/
CERTIFICATIONS: Current Oregon Drivers License and Oregon Pesticide Applicator’s License
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of five years experience working in golf course grounds maintenance with at least two of those years in a management capacity
COMPENSATION SUMMARY
• Salary range $70,000 to $85,000/ year BOE
• Medical Insurance: Employer pays 80%
• Dental Insurance: Employer pays 80% *Family Dental Employer pays 100%
• Simple IRA: the lesser of employee contribution or match up to 3% of salary.
