March President’s Message
With hints of spring in the air and a busy stretch ahead for us all, don’t forget to take time for yourself, family and friends throughout the season. At many times I must remind myself of this and that the golf course will still be there tomorrow!
As this marks my final term as President of the Oregon Chapter, I’d like to express what an honor it has been to serve and work with an amazing group of industry professionals. I am proud of where our association stands, both financially and in terms of the value we provide to the membership. I look forward to my time as Past President, working with the upcoming Board of Directors and continuing the growth of the association.
The GCSAA’s Leadership Symposium takes place in Lawrance, Kansas next week, which I will be attending with Executive Director Alexis Wenker. This will be an excellent opportunity to connect with peers, learn from industry leaders, and share valuable experiences that we will bring back to our chapter leaders and members.
As always, we have a full calendar over the coming months, and I’d like to highlight a few important items and upcoming events:
• Monday March 31st Deadlines
Legacy Scholarship Applications
Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent Award Nominations
Last day to volunteer to run for the Board of Directors
We have 3 Director Positions and 1 Affiliate Position available this year. Please reach out if you are interested in getting involved. We are here to answer any questions when it comes to the time and commitment required.
• Rounds 4 Research
As we approach the spring season, don’t forget about donating to the Rounds 4 Research Auction running from April 21st – 27th. The funds raised not only go to industry research but help fund the annual pledge for the Oregon State University Turf Technician position and scholarships given out by the chapter. Let’s make it another record year and get involved in this amazing program. Visit rounds4research.com to donate or preview rounds that have been donated. Let your members and friends know about this important program that gives them the opportunity to play courses across the country while supporting the game they love. You can also contact Alexis Wenker at ogcsa@ogcsa.org for help with this easy process.
• Friday March 21st – Saturday March 22nd: FFA Convention
We will be hosting a booth once again at the upcoming FFA Convention at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds in Redmond along with Oregon State University. Extra help in the booth is always welcome as we showcase opportunities in the turfgrass management industry.
• Friday April 4th: Service Project
Join us for our annual Service Project taking place this year at The Children’s Course in Gladstone. It’s always a fulfilling and meaningful way to give back to the community while supporting the future of golf.
• Monday April 28th: OGCSA Open Golf Tournament
The OGCSA Open will be hosted by Illahe Hills Country Club in Salem. This event is always a fun and competitive way to connect with fellow members. I encourage you to participate and support this important fundraiser for the association.
• Thursday May 22nd: Annual Meeting
Mark your calendars for our Annual Meeting as we head back to McMenamins Edgefield in Troutdale. This event is always a highlight, offering both a chance to reflect on the year and look ahead to what’s next for our association.
Finally, I wanted to mention that you will all be receiving an Oregon Economic Impact Study survey from the Golf Alliance of Oregon. The last study of this kind was done in 2020 off of 2019 data and it will be great to have this updated for our industry. Thanks to the Oregon Golf Association and the Golf Alliance of Oregon for taking the lead on getting this going.
Here’s to a great season ahead, and I look forward to seeing many of you at these events!
Cheers,
Scott Moffenbeier
President
